Secondary School Redesign

High schools face many competing demands as they work to redesign their schools to improve student learning and to prepare young people to participate in the global economy in this 21st century.  This transformation will require many of them to embrace revolutionary change.

Teachers21 aims to improve the quality of educational experiences available to high school students to ensure they are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to live meaningful and productive lives after graduation by preparing them for college and a career.

Our work with numerous schools and districts throughout New England has led us to develop a comprehensive framework for systemic reform.  Since 2005 we have been collaborating with districts to use this secondary school redesign framework to create and carry out an action plan for reform in their high schools.

Our approach to secondary school redesign focuses on seven

essential elements:

  1. Shared school governance
  2. Culture of professional development
  3. Personalization
  4. Equity
  5. Curriculum/Instruction/Assessment
  6. Use of time and resources
  7. Community partnerships
