Policy & Public Discourse: An Overview Linking policy and practice to re-shape all the systems that influence educator quality is at the heart of the Teachers21 mission. At the state level, Teachers21 works with legislators and staff, K-12 and higher ed. practitioners, and the business community to generate legislative proposals to improve educator quality for all children in Massachusetts Public Schools. At the national level, Teachers21 collaborates with organizations such as the National Commission on Teaching and America’s Future and the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards to influence discussions about policy and practice relating to educator quality. Our policy work is driven by our desire to strengthen the public’s understanding of the complexity of teaching and leading and the crucial importance of educator excellence. Through forums, articles, presentations, and other media, we seek to engage the public in ensuring that teachers and leaders are part of a workforce system that recruits highly competitive applicants and then provides them with rigorous preparation and induction, ongoing opportunities for professional growth, strong supervision and evaluation, and a differentiated career ladder to keep educators in the profession for the long-term.
