Professional Learning Communities

According to the North Central Regional Educational Laboratory, a professional learning community is defined as "a collegial group of administrators and school staff who are united in their commitment to student learning. They share a vision, work and learn collaboratively, visit and review other classrooms, and participate in decision making."

Teachers21 has been supporting schools and districts to establish collaborative learning cultures since its inception in 1993.  From this work, we have learned that one of the most successful strategies for creating opportunities for teachers to work and learn together is to empower teachers as leaders in multiple settings and across all disciplines.
